Dear editor, It has come to my attention that there have been a large number of complaints, especially from Milford people, about the entrance fee of £2 for Fish Week.

Two pounds - not exactly a vast sum of money. How about seeing it as an investment? Each one putting in his/her two pounds is actually taking ownership of the venture, aiding its success, putting Milford ‘on the map’, standing on our own two feet instead of forever leaning on EU handouts.

Lets start taking some initiative here. Some years back there was an ‘invisioning weekend’, an exercise encouraging us to see our past, present and what could be our future if we took ownership, responsibility and did something.

A quote from the Western Telegraph, August 19th, 1864: “It would seem as if the old British legend, that the entrance to the great Pembrokeshire port is guarded by two mighty giants, contained a hidden truth and is now typical of the state of a people, drowsy and spiritless and thoroughly indifferent to their own material prosperity. Once the twin brothers with their drawn swords taught a great truth that the Haven could be easily defended against invasion and Aberdaugleddau the estuary of the haven of the two swords, was an emblem of defence and protection. In later years the myth has changed its character and the giants of indolence and indifferentism and trade from our shores.”

Look up the words ‘idolence and indifferent’. Have we changed? We can.
