Milford Haven’s 10th Music Festival next month will feature a towering triumph of tenors and also the newly-appointed Royal harpist.

In addition to Carmarthen-born “Go Compare” celebrity Wynne Evans as the star of the opening 22nd gala concert at the Torch Theatre on Saturday, September 3, the festival will close with another rousing feast of vocal virtuosity featuring three of Wales’ other top class tenors – Rhys Meirion, Aled Hall and Alun Rhys Jenkins at the Torch at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 17, and the new Royal harpist Hannah Stone appears with them.

Wynne will share the stage with soprano Adele O’Neill and Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir in what promises to be a memorable opening show. Among the songs he will sing is “My heart belongs to you,” the title of his recently-released debut CD.

Indomitable impresario of the festival, June Rees, has also secured impressive performers to take part in the traditional mid-week events which make the festival such a popular and varied musical celebration. President Glan Phillips and the committee have been busy promoting ticket sales and arranging the programme to ensure the success of this prestigious event.

On Thursday, September 8 at 1pm, Huw Tregelles Williams gives an admission-free organ recital at St Katharine’s Church; Saturday, September 10 brings a musical coffee morning featuring the local school’s brass ensemble at the Torch Theatre from 11am to 1pm; the Bute Brass Ensemble plays at St Katharine’s at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 13, with coffee and Welsh cakes; the admission-free young musicians’ platform takes place at Tabernacle Church at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 15 and the Tiddly Prom Trio performs for the toddlers at 11am at the Torch Theatre Studio on Saturday, September 17 as an aperitif to that evening’s final three tenors concert.

The three tenors are currently engaged in signing copies of their brand new CD which features some wonderful solos and trios. Patrons are advised to get their tickets early as demand is high.

Tickets for all festival events are available from the Torch Theatre on 01646-695267 and the programme has the generous support of sponsors South Hook LNG, Pembrokeshire County Council, Chevron, Milford Haven Town Council, Fred Rees Garage.
