Dear editor, I ATTENDED the consultation meeting on the future of our health service. I was (and am) disgusted.

The message is loud and clear – unless you stand up and be counted then Withybush Hospital as you know it is doomed. The consultation document ‘Your Health Your Future’ includes a key claim that ‘clinicians led the development of proposals for the future delivery of key services’.

This is belied by the fact that no Withybush clinicians were represented on the platform and indeed, by their evasive answers, the platform party showed that they knew little about the excellence of Withybush Hospital services.

It was left to local clinicians and medical staff to raise their many valid protests from the floor and they were well supported by our AMs and our MP.

The message of this letter is - should you, for example, be content that in future you will have to take your broken bones to Llanelli and your sick babies and your children to Carmarthen, then so be it.

I hope that those who attended the meeting will have peered through the smoke and mirrors from the platform and registered their protests.

Those who were not there, make sure you know what is proposed for the future delivery of your key health services and take action that your protests are known. If at all possible, you might consider joining the protest trip to the Senedd in Cardiff on October 24.. Your protests must be received by October 29.
