Mari Rees, Labour’s candidate for Preseli Pembrokeshire took to the streets of Haverfordwest today, joined by Welsh Assembly First Minister Carwyn Jones.

Shoppers and workers passing through Haverfordwest stopped to chat with Mari and her campaign team were busy passing on the Labour message.

Mari said: “The coming election will be the most closely contested of our generation. I am determined to meet as many people as possible over the course of the next few weeks.

“The result of this election will determine the future of everyone for a very long time. It is right that before casting their vote people have a chance to ask their candidates what they and their parties stand for."

Mr Jones, who was visiting the town for the first time in his official capacity, added: “What we are finding is people are saying things seem to be improving so we are going to stick with you, which wasn’t happening a few months ago. People are thinking is it worth taking the risk of a change of government?”

A serving solider, Tim Elliott, who has just returned from Afghanistan, listened to Mari’s campaign messages and said that now more than ever it is important to vote.

“The country is declining, there has got to be someone to take control of it. I want to know more about what the Government is doing about the armed forces.”

Labour supporter, Elizabeth Morgans added: “Youngsters today don’ t realise that it’s important. My children, who are grown up now, they realise because they have lived through Conservative and Labour governments.

“I don’t know which way its going to go, at one stage it was a landslide for the Tories but I think the gap is closing.”
