I AM very concerned at the fall off in the number of young people turning away from the church, with some choosing to marry in hotels and a large number turning away from marriage and deciding to cohabit.
Yet David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister, decides on his own initiative without first including it in the election manifesto or in the Queen’s speech, to ask parliament to vote on allowing gay marriages in church.
I will not go into the pros and cons of marriage, which I and millions of others have strong views on and not forgetting that statistics have proved the advantage of marriage between man and woman and eventual offspring.
I do not think that the legislation will make much difference except to lower the sanctity of marriage.
The real difference this will make, and David Cameron has brought this on himself, is that he will come over as a leader who has lost the respect and discipline over his elected members.
How long will his members allow him to stay on as leader? If he remains I believe his ambition to form the next government after 2015 is probably very unlikely.
