WHAT a good letter from a reader last week commenting re libraries as community matters.
What the difference the libraries out here have is in the way they are an integral part of the towns and villages they are situated in, especially with schoolchildren and schools organising events to cover all age groups.
This week at my local library it was a special day set aside to encourage reading and to use all other services provided by libraries, you do not you see an empty library here.
In the gardens belonging to the library, books were hanging from the trees branches, events were arranged all day yet again to cover all ages.
One large banner over the main entrance may have seemed odd if you were a visitor not knowing the Spanish language. It simply said “LEER” which quite innocently translates to READ.
What a sensible proclamation...
