I have been following this ill-considered proposal with interest since the first proposal was announced. I now see that the proposal has been rejected by Tenby so where next?

1. Do the proposers realise that tourism is vitally important to PEMBROKESHIRE and can the county afford to discourage a single visitor who might help the local economy?

2. Is there any research that shows that a single person is likely to be affected by passive smoking on a beach?

3. There might be a litter impact from “fag ends” yes. Has anything yet been trialled to reduce this impact? Pembs Waste & Recycling could surely do more in that respect.

What about single use bbq’s, beer cans etc which represent a real danger to the environment and very real RISK to beach users? - are they to be banned too?

4. E-cigarettes have helped many people to quit smoking the real thing - myself included, not a single “fag”

since 1st October 2014.

Surely their use should be encouraged, not discouraged?

I declare an interest as I own 7 5*holiday cottages. Each one contributes greatly to the local economy through the year as we attract high spenders We encourage all guests to support “LOCAL” and that means shops, activity centres, attractions etc etc - and THEY DO I employ local people to work in our office, organise the housekeeping for 47 bed-spaces, cleaners, a handyman plus the support we give to local shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways throughout the year. I could go on but you get the drift! Surely anything which might put someone off from visiting our wonderful county has to be properly considered and its impact assessed.

I don’t believe there has been any meaningful consultation or assessment of this proposal. I look to St Davids City Council and others to reject the proposal as Tenby has done.
