TENBY Avenue Centre – now it’s over to you, Pembrokeshire County Council.

Following the meetings on February 11 at the De Valence Pavilion and on February 15 at Tenby Hospital (as reported in the Telegraph on February 17) the council should now abandon its plans to close Tenby Avenue Centre.

At both meetings serious concerns were raised that the closure plan had been made without reference to wider considerations about how vulnerable adults should be supported across Pembrokeshire.

The plan is therefore flawed and the closure should not go ahead.

I appreciate the council is in a difficult financial position with a reduction in its budget of 2.8%. I also know that councillors want to serve their communities and will not want to cause hardship for vulnerable people.

Saving the Avenue Centre will enable it to continue as a base for adults to make friends and build up their confidence in order to take part in many activities and have fulfilling lives. It will also help the carers to receive much needed support with their challenging responsibilities as was mentioned at the De Valence meeting.

Hopefully, the council will now do the right thing and save the centre. Over to you Pembrokeshire County Council.
