A DISABLED woman from Milford Haven is going the extra mile to raise funds for her local sports club.

This Sunday, 61-year-old Angela Evans will be taking part in a sponsored mobility ‘scoot’ between Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock, to raise awareness of Pembrokeshire Disabled Bowlers Club.

Travelling at a top speed of 8mph, Angela’s round trip to Pembroke Dock Asda and back will also be raising cash for the club.

Angela, who plays in a wheelchair, joined the club a year ago, and says she loves being part of a team.

“I was hopeless the first time I played, but I’m gradually improving,” said Angela.

“They’re a lovely friendly crowd, and this is my way of giving something back.”

With members aged between eight and 80, the club is open to players of all skill levels, from beginners to competition winners.

Most importantly, it welcome members with a host of disabilities, from visual impairments to those with mobility issues, and is also used as part of rehabilitation by people recovering from a stroke.

As well as a chance to learn a new skill, it’s also a way to socialise and keep fit.

The club meets every Monday at Milford Haven Leisure Centre, between 2pm and 4pm.

There is no membership fee, and each session is £1, with a 15p contribution for tea and biscuits.

If you would like to sponsor Angela, you can make a cheque out to Pembrokeshire Disabled Bowlers Club, and hand it in at the Leisure Centre.
