FINGERS on the buzzer for MP David Lidington, as he takes on the cream of Trinity College, Oxford, when he appears on the brain-busting show University Challenge, for the second time.

Mr Lidington, whose constituency includes Princes Risborough, was a member of the victorious Sidney Sussex College team from Cambridge University back in 1979, and has been reunited with original team-mates for the first time in 23 years, for the latest series of the BBC quiz.

University Challenge Reunited, sees the abrasive Jeremy Paxman rattle off questions at previous victors as they return to compete for the "champion of champions" title.

Mr Lidington told the Free Press he had relished the challenge to pit his brains against other previous champions despite a few differences in the show.

He said: "I was extremely excited about going back on the programme. Some members of the team I had not seen since leaving university so it was a great reunion with old friends as much as a mental challenge.

"I was looking forward to seeing Bamber Gascoigne again but Jeremy is a more than worthy replacement.

"Jeremy is perfectly placed for this role. It's part of his persona."

You can see David Lidington in action on University Challenge Reunited which will be screened next Monday on BBC 2 at 8pm.
