A minute's silence was held in memory of a young footballer, who tragically died while on holiday abroad with his friends last week.

Prior to the Stephen Calan Memorial final between Monkton Swifts and Pennar Robins on Friday night, a minute's silence was held for Grant Weston.

Grant's former team, Hundleton, had been set to face Pennar in one of the semi final games during the week. But following news of his death, they conceded the game as a mark of respect to their former midfielder.

It is understood that Grant fell to his death from a balcony while on holiday on the island of Ibiza last Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old from Pembroke was a popular player with Hundleton, the Pembrokeshire Football League division one outfit.

The local community has been left shocked by news of sudden death.

He had been enjoying a holiday in the part resort of San Antonio with a large group of friends from the Pembroke area.

Police on the island are not treating his death as suspicious.

Hundleton committee member Paul Jones described Grant as a 'lovely lad'.

He added: "He was quiet but likeable and he was an excellent footballer.

"We are devastated by this tragic event and he will be sadly missed.

"Our hearts reach out to his family at this extremely sad time."

Hundleton manager Mark Powell spoke of his great sadness at the news.

"He was a genuine lad," he said.

"He had everything to live for and it's cruel that he has been taken away from us.

"He had a brilliant sense of humour and I have known him for the past eight years.

"It's a shock.

"I feel for his family and he will be a great loss to our football club."
