A fabulously festive time was had by children on Withybush Hospital's children ward last Friday.

Patients and their families enjoyed visits from Father Christmas, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their favourite Frozen characters, who had come from the Lion's Den soft play, in a ward adorned with delightful decorations and a fabulous Frozen theme.

Children who regularly attend the ward and recent admissions were all invited to join in the festive fun.

"We are still busy with children that have got to have treatment and rather than go to Carmarthen they stay local and have as much treatment as possible locally," said senior play specialist Sandra Jones.

"I'm surprised at how many children we are seeing coming through. It makes a big difference if we can treat them here."

She said the party was a great morale boost for children.

"We try and provide as many positive experiences as we can throughout a child's treatment. If we can provide a lot of positives the memories of the positives will outweigh the negatives.

"We have children who have to have constant treatment and intervention and we are trying to introduce some positive experiences for them to cushion that.

"We have had massive support from local businesses and members of the public for today's party. The look on the children's faces when our surprise visitors arrived said it all."
