GOODWICK Brass Band played in the Championship Section for the first time in their history on Saturday (May 16) when they took part in the South and West League contest at Merthyr.
It was almost a double cause for celebration when the band just missed out on a podium finish, being placed fourth behind Llwydcoed, Burry Port and winners City of Cardiff.
Under the leadership of musical director Matthew Jenkins the band performed the test piece of London Overture by Philip Sparke.
Adjudicator David Hirst summed up the band’s performance in saying: “A good band performance with a good soloist. Some moments of untidiness but the music recovers and is very well directed by the MD”.
The band was very pleased with the result considering that they are now playing against the premier league bands in Wales and they were delighted when tenor horn player Geraint Harries,16, was awarded the H.H.Cook Trophy for best Horn player in the Championship Section.
