FAMILIES will be able to take to the ice as Haverfordwest welcomes an ice rink to the town centre later this month.

Situated in the car park opposite the Picton Centre, the ice rink will be open to all people on the afternoons and evenings of October 30 and 31 and November 1.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Alan Buckfield, told the Western Telegraph: “We hope to turn this into an annual event, to bring children and young families into Haverfordwest.

“The Showmen will have rides for the children along with stalls, hopefully food and beverage stalls and Christmas gift stalls.

“At £2 per person or £5 for a family, and having it at the end of the half-term week, the town council believes this will increase the footfall in our town.”

The ice rink is jointly funded by Pembrokeshire County Council and Haverfordwest Town Council, and a county council spokesperson, said: “Pembrokeshire County Council received a request from Haverfordwest Town Council for support via our town centre regeneration funding for a temporary ice-skating rink in Haverfordwest at the end of October.

"We have confirmed our support for the project as it will generate footfall in the town centre.”

County Councillor Thomas Tudor said: “This is great news, and will greatly benefit the town of Haverfordwest.
“The idea is to increase footfall and generate interest in shopping in the town centre and I’m sure it will be a great event.”
