AN ORGANISER has taken the decision to cancel a planned ice rink in Haverfordwest after no sponsors were found.

Former Haverfordwest resident James Evans, of Everything Ice, failed to find £40,000 of sponsorship to cover the event which he hoped would run from December 7 to January 3.

Permission for the ice rink had been granted and Pembrokeshire County Council was looking to house the event at Scotchwell car park, among other possible sites.

A Facebook page was set up in an attempt to push forward the event however Mr Evans took to the Facebook page to let followers know the event had to be cancelled.

He said: “I regret to have had no choice but to have made the decision not to go ahead with this year’s event.

“This decision was made due to there being no-one coming forward to sponsor the event, this making it unviable.

“We are however remaining in talks about producing the event for Christmas 2016/2017.

“We are also talking about a possible summer 2016 event of a similar nature.

“Again massive apologies and huge thanks for all those in support of the event and appreciate your disappointment as we are equally disappointed. We hope you will all remain in support of any future events we plan for Pembrokeshire.”

A number of people commented on the post highlighting the short amount of time given to look for sponsorship with one Facebook user writing: “To be honest if I was sponsoring something like this, I would have wanted to see it all start happening back in June or July to plan it all.”
