A CONCERT in Milford Haven School saw pupils from six schools come together to celebrate the Welsh language, and raise much-needed funds for charity.

Hakin Community School, Hubberston VC School, Meads Infant and Nursery, Milford Haven Juniors, Coastlands and Milford Haven secondary school children joined popular Crymych choir Bois y Frenni for the second annual event.

Compere for the evening was Eurfyl Lewis, youth development officer for the Urdd in Pembrokeshire, who congratulated all the children on taking part in this celebration of Welsh culture.

Jolly numbers such as Sosban Fach and Barti Ddu – which saw pupils from Hakin and Hubberston Schools dress as pirates – were complemented by equally rousing numbers from Bois y Frenni.

Audience members young and old giggled along to ‘Motor Beic Benji’ and ‘Chwerthin’, and enjoyed the theatrics of ‘Y Ddau Blismon’.

Following a popular performance at last year’s concert, the Bois were thrilled to be invited to Milford Haven once again, saying: “The reaction from parents and children proves how important it is to keep tradition alive.”

Proceeds from this year’s concert will go to Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship (PATCH), which helps families and individuals who have been hit by financial hardship.

Milford Haven School headteacher Rod Francis said that the concert gave children a chance to practice their Welsh “outside the school walls and show them that Welsh is a living language and is genuinely used by a large population in our county”.
