Young people in Goodwick have until the end of September to apply for grants of up to £500; the first round of funding from Goodwick Youth Bank, set up as the legacy of the late JC Bowen.

Mr Bowen, formerly of Pehrhiw, Goodwick, made a donation for the construction of Goodwick Community Centre. in the 1960s.

Pembrokeshire County Council recently sold the building and gave a percentage of the money back to the community to be used for the benefit of the youth of Goodwick, befitting Mr Bowen's original bequest.

A steering group was set up earlier this year which includes Kathryn Perkins, the great, great niece of Mr Bowen.

Meetings for the youth bank have been running ever since, hosted by Cliff Benson of Sea Trust, to ensure the rules for application to the grant making body are fair and meet the wishes of Mr Bowen's legacy.

Youth worker, Steve Lewis, Lynda Duffill from Fishguard & Goodwick Young Persons Trust have been working to facilitate meetings for the young people, along with Dani O'Connor who is part of the steering group.

Last month Goodwick's youth grant making body went live and applications are now invited from eligible groups and individuals.

The first round of applications will be considered by Goodwick Youth Bank panel at the end of September.

If you are aged 8-25 you can apply to the youth bank but you must be from Goodwick, or attend a group based within Goodwick which has a person over 18 involved with it. Applications which help or enrich the community are looked favourably upon.

Maximum grants of £500 are available and applicants must be willing to submit feedback to the youth bank to show how the money has been spent.

You can apply for a grant by submitting a video/audio clip or completing an application form.
