Fishguard and District Round Table has raised more than £7,000 for Children in Need, their biggest sum ever, after a bumper four days of Pudsey-themed events.

The epic effort began with a 124 mile cycle ride in memory of the late Sir Terry Wogan. A team of 17 cyclists and a support crew set off for Ireland on Tuesday afternoon. Tablers began collecting onboard the ferry to Ireland where they set up static bikes and worked the collection buckets.

On Wednesday they travelled to Limerick, the birthplace of Sir Terry, where they were warmly welcomed by the deputy mayor. The team set off on the first leg of their marathon cycle at 9.30am.

The weather held and the cyclists travelled to Carrick en Suir, completing the first 62 miles of their mammoth ride in just over four hours.

Again in fine weather they set off for Rosslare on Thursday morning. Cheered on by the Irish public

they completed the final 62 miles in good time, arriving at Hotel Rosslare in time for a fine reception and a congratulatory visit from the town's mayor.

The cyclists travelled back to Fishguard on Thursday evening, arriving home in the early hours of Friday morning.

After a quick rest they joined their colleagues, including a life-sized Pudsey, who had set up the customary Children in Need toll bridge at Lowetown.

The Tablers have so far raised just over £7,000; with £3,300 raised on the toll bridge, the JustGiving page currently running at £3,312 and other donations still coming in.

"The outcome from the lads has been really really fantastic," said Round Table chairman Allan Cresswell.

"We are really chuffed and pleased and would like to thank the local people who came out and supported us, as well as our sponsors, Stena, CLH trailers, Richards Bros, Mikes Bikes, RLH architect, Mayberry kayaking, Baku Transport and the Ship."
