MILFORD Haven Karate Club recently travelled to the seventh leg of the Welsh Karate League at Cowbridge and yet again it proved to successful journey.

There was some great fights along the way with club instructor Kevin John doing enough to claim the overall title by winning the league with two events remaining - becoming 'Welsh Champion of Champions' in the men's seniors event.

Jamie Phillips beat a Welsh International during his bouts but narrowly lost out in the final and came away with the silver medal.

Chloe Boswell was again superb, using her height to dominate her rivals, but lost by the smallest of margins in the final on a sudden death score and took the silver.

Ieuan Rutherford gained a bronze in a hard under 14s category and Kaine Bambrough-Lewis was excellent to gain a well deserved bronze in the under 12s boys.

Kevin said: "I am delighted to be crowned the league Welsh Champion of Champions. It's been a hard year and the last couple of my performances haven't been quite there but delighted to finally win it.

" I have seen so much improvement in the fighters since the first competition began and I am delighted with their progress. We are aiming for even bigger events next year for them and hopefully looking forward to competing at the European Championships next year".

Kevin also wished to thank Castle View Rest Rooms for their kind sponsorship of hoodies to squad fighters who regularly compete all year round..
