Gents

THERE was a good turnout of 72 players who played in the September Medal.

After a damp start in the morning the weather cleared and some excellent scoring took place with the course in great condition.

The presentation took place at the clubhouse as Jeff Button stood in for club captain Gwyn French, he thanked sponsors Barry and Alan Summons, and he also congratulated the Super Six team who have been crowned the Dyfed champions. Jeff also thanked Wayne Cooper for organizing the away trip to Aberystwyth the previous weekend.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, 14 ladies played in the weekly roll up. The winner this week was Enid de Wolf with an excellent 43 points and the runner up was Margaret Hicks with 35 points. There were two twos won by Pearl Slate on the 10th hole and Pauline Summons on the 16th hole, both sharing the winning pot.

On Sunday, 11 ladies played in the last G.U.W Rookery Nook competition of the season. Ten year old Hollie Jenkins from the Junior section was eligible to play with the ladies section in this competition and played an excellent round of golf coming home with a nett 78. The winner with a nett 69 was Maeve McGee who also dropped her handicap by two shots. The runner up was Cheryl Eva with a nett 73. As the Rookery Nook was won by six different players, the overall winner will be determined in a play-off match to be arranged in the next few weeks.

Seniors

THE club’s senior section travelled with 17 players to The Grove Club for their captain’s away day.

The golf was played in glorious sunshine with the course in excellent condition with the greens true and quick; a warm welcome was given by the staff at the club and the food was excellent.

Brian Mitchell the seniors captain thanked everyone for making the effort and he also thanked all the people who had helped to organise the day.

The only two of the day was by Brian Mitchell who had his on the 205 yards 4th hole with a thirty foot putt.

The nearest the pin which was sponsored by Owain Picton was also won by seniors captain Brian Mitchell who was the only player to hit the last hole on the course 167 yards par three; this he made by only two inches to win the prize.

Last Thursday, was a stableford competition which was also a qualifier for the Colin Reynolds Salvers where a large entry of 43 and three guests took part on a dry day with a strong breeze.

The highlight of the day was the shot on the par four index 2 11th hole Fort by 23 handicapper Peter Derbyshire who holed out with a seven iron from 150 yards for a two.

The winner was John Sanderson with 42 points; two points ahead in runners up spot Steve Brown.

In the Colin Reynolds Salvers there is a new leader with Tony Davey picking up four points giving him a total of 18 points two ahead of Jack Jenkins.

On Tuesday, September 8 a stableford competition where 33 took part; the course once again was in excellent condition with the greens true and quick.

The winner was Tony Davey with 41 points. The highlight of the day was an Albatross (three under par) by John Sanderson on the shorten par five 18th Hole, for six stableford points to have a share in the twos competition.

Senior Knockout Cups

The Esso Val French cup for individuals and the pair’s knockout have both reached the finals stage;

In the individual cup Alan Summons will play Ian Fairburn. In the pairs knockout cup the final; Phil Davies and Maurice Coe will play Chris Oliver and Steve Phillips. Both finals must be played by the end of September.

Juniors

ONLY one junior competition played at the weekend, with Josh Hutchings winning the Peter Harries Cup with 42 points, and Alex Starling second on 40 points.

Singles - Thomas Wood beat Jack Jenkins (at 8 years old Jack is the youngest ever finalist to play in the Club Knockout Cup).

Doubles - Abe Forsyth and Josh Hutchings beat Jake Houston and Jack Wilson (on second extra hole).

On Sunday, September 6 - Dyfed Boys v Dyfed Girls in Carmarthen, Milford Haven four players in Boys Team - Abe Forsyth, Thomas Wood, Josh Lewis and Dyfed Captain Brandon Cooper, and Hollie Jenkins plays in the girls’ team.
